Jarome Luai's stunning season

Jarome Luai had arguably the best season of his rugby league, helping the Panthers to back-to-back premierships and Samoa to the World Cup final.

With halfback Nathan Cleary missing 10 games over the season through injury and suspension, Luai was the stability in the halves for the Panthers throughout the campaign.

The five-eighth played 20 NRL games in 2022, in which he scored seven tries and assisted a further 13.

Following NRL triumph, he was one of the standouts at the World Cup, claiming three Player of the Match honours on the way to the final against the Kangaroos.

BEST TRY

Luai scored a number of impressive tries throughout 2022, but his match-winner against the Sharks takes the prize.

In a tense battle with a top four opponent, Luai sealed the victory to put the Panthers clear at the top of the ladder.

Unfortunately, the five-eighth picked up an injury in the process.

WHAT WAS SAID

Teammate rivalry went to a new level when nine Panthers featured in the World Cup Final (six for Samoa and three for Australia).

The biggest match-up was in the halves between Jarome Luai and Nathan Cleary. When the Samoa five-eighth was asked what it would be like to face his close teammate, he gave a brilliant response.

We are competitors though and through. It is going to be a great battle against one of my boys out there, but there are no friends on the field. There are only brothers and enemies and I am always going to look at it the same way.
