Tago cements left centre position

No player played more games for the Panthers in 2022 than Izack Tago.

The representative centre totaled 26 of 27 NRL games across the season – the only game he missed was the final round clash in Townsville when coach Ivan Cleary rested the entire starting side.

Across the year, he suffered just three defeats and tallied 13 tries, 15 line-breaks and 9 try assists.

His strong form saw him make his international debut for Samoa in the mid-year Test and he featured in his first World Cup.

With 13 tries to pick from, it was a tough choice picking Tago's best four-pointer of the year. But we went with his try against Wests Tigers.

WHAT WAS SAID

Earlier this year, the Panthers re-signed with the club until at least the end of the 2025 season. Tago shared how much the Panthers and the area mean to him.

Re-signing with the club that I debuted for means so much to me. To stay with the boys that I’ve played with over the last few years makes it even better. I’m proud to represent this area. I’ve been here my whole life and this place is home to me. I’m excited for the opportunity to represent the community.

It’s great to see another local junior commit his future to the club, and we’re thrilled to see Izack remain in Panthers colours until at least the end of 2025. Izack has made the most of his opportunity in first grade this season, and we’re excited to see him develop his game at Panthers over the next three years.

SOCIAL SCENE

When it comes to social media, there's not much to share about Izack Tago.

To limit distractions, the Panthers centre limits his social media use - he even has a flip phone.

"It's one of those phones where you have to click the button four times for one letter," Tago laughed.

"So I don't really message either, mostly so I'm not on my phone for long, but because it's hard as to message someone. So I have to either call, or even go visit, whoever I want to speak to. It makes my connections more genuine.

"If I want to do something, I try to do everything possible to limit what I am trying to get rid of… so the flip phone keeps me off my phone. I can't play games, accessing apps isn't easy.

"I really don't like paying attention to the external noise or things like that. So I never read any of it. I only ever find out about it at training."
